You can recover your gamertag in the sign in window if i remember correctly, otherwise just Google Xbox 360 recover account or Xbox 360 recover gamertag. It sounds to me like either the update has screwed things up somehow or your onboard flash memory card has failed (it isn't common but if that is the case it isn't too serious as they are rather cheap to replace)

Instead of pressing 'A' to start playing, you either press 'X' or 'Y' (can't remember which off hand, but it should be shown as a choice) to view more info on the CD. I think Major Nelson said on Xbox 101 that if you don't set aside an amount for storage, you won't be able to use the drive on your pc unless you reformat it

However, if you choose to play the game from the Hard Disk the Xbox360 really does do just that.One thing to note: if a game spans multiple disks (Blue Dragon comes to mind) after copying the second or third disks my experience has been that the validation requires the same disk.
