The aggregate of all the stats for all users in a release channel really help us understand how stable the release is and how people are using any new features. What should I do before I change my channel? Back up your data! Before you switch, you should make a backup of your profile (bookmarks, most visited pages, history, cookies, etc)
Logging in, sometimes you just want the darn thing to startup to the account instead of wanting a username and forced password longer than x characters. What did removing the start button; in your opinion, do for the good of change? Removing a familiar entity which people of all ages identify with and find useful? The more things change (The shitty Metro UI crap), the more things stay the same (Microsoft fanbase bringing back the start button themselves)

My explanation is that there are 5 ping attempts each lasting 5 seconds, but there is about a 1 second time delay between ping attempts: there is after all little reason to expect a different result if you ping again immediately and it is better to give a network a little time to recover from whatever problem it has had.
