My goal was to enjoy the R2R hike -- and I think the training made it so that I was comfortable with my equipment and the whole experience was much more pleasant. Once, just recently, after many trips to the Canyon, when we arrived late at night and walked along the rim right near other signs of human life - it still freaked me out (big dark hole - very dark). My question is , 1) Is it safe to drive from Phoenix to Yavapai in this time frame (i.e start from Phoenix evening 6:30? 2) Would we have trouble entering the GC Park at around 10:30 i.e road closure etc
