My goal was to enjoy the R2R hike -- and I think the training made it so that I was comfortable with my equipment and the whole experience was much more pleasant. The meals at the canteen were very good - but be on time and eat quickly, they have another sitting or they need to clean up to reopen the canteen for open use.RIBBON FALLS - if there's time on the way down and you can add another mile to the trip, it's definitely worth the extra walk! Most of all, DO IT! It was a poor example of an old western town with such activities as tom a hawk throwing, bow and arrow shooting, horse back riding (extra charge), wagon ride (extra charge), a cafe (food extra) and 2 old koots with blanks in there guns and not much of a show. If you get bored at the GCNP SR (highly unlikely) and feel the need to go somewhere else, head east out to the Painted Desert and then north up to Marble Canyon, Navajo Bridge and Lees Ferry and possibly even Page

Once, just recently, after many trips to the Canyon, when we arrived late at night and walked along the rim right near other signs of human life - it still freaked me out (big dark hole - very dark). My question is , 1) Is it safe to drive from Phoenix to Yavapai in this time frame (i.e start from Phoenix evening 6:30? 2) Would we have trouble entering the GC Park at around 10:30 i.e road closure etc
