It looks like the rice is the most common trick out there, even my service provider told me to use rice when I called to activate my old device while I wait these dreaded two days. (My hubby is a tech and he freaked when I told him I put the hair dryer on it) Hairdryers are fine on a NO HEAT setting, but RICE IS BEST! (in lieu of silica packets)

No they cannot the phone was tampered with and unless you put the internal water sensors back on, they will easily be able to tell it was tampered with. If you had simply said you were in the process of learning with the hopes of one day being competent enough I doubt anyone would have given you crap (although on here who knows...) As someone who rebuilt a car from literally the frame with no formal training I can tell you that sometimes the best fix is to take a break for a while, regroup, and start again

Have you tried holding the home button and lock button together for 10 seconds, or just the lock button? You should leave it plugged in for at least 10 minutes jut to be sure. did you press and hold BOTH the home button and the power button for more than 10 seconds? This is hard resetting the phone and may be what it takes to bring it back
