So I deleted the shortcuts and then navigated to the folder where the office files were located on the program files and created new shortcuts and the issue was resolved. 1) i had vista standard with office 2003 installed 2) we upgraded office to office 2007 standard 3) the configuration installer now appears each time when starting word, excel, powerpoint, outlook 4) used the fix by Lauren, now word, powerpoint, excel will start normal, but when starting outlook the config installer still shows for a few minutes and outlook eventually starts

Note that there is an xlsb or xlsm version of personal in Excel (maybe in word - I'm not a heavy user) - for no good reason other than finding it first I use the xlsm route - that's not a recommendation just an alert. - and if you use other templates in Word (.dot?) or tailored workbooks in Excel (.xlt?) or the pre-styled workbook and sheet options Book.xls? and Sheet.xls? you need to find and copy them from Startup or I'm afraid one of the other possible locations

Microsoft Office Can't open Office 2007 files with Office 2010!I now have a new problem, before I managed to open 2007 files by opening Office 2010 and then from inside the application choosing to open a file. The various possibilities mentioned in Booklet printing on the Word MVP site are mostly intended for people who still use Word 2000 or earlier, since Word 2002 and later have this feature built in. Do you suppose it's an issue with Word 2000? Or did I do something wrong? (Remember I don't really know or understand these macros.) This seems like such a great idea
Only reason I wanted to do this is because I have about 800 pages with section breaks in it and everywhere it starts a new section break I need it to create its own document.
