2013 Verified Purchase As my first trial I sprinkled Sluggo around some lettuces and pak choi that had a slug nestled in every fold, gnawing relentlessly at the juicy spine of each leaf. The real test was whether a slug, comfortably nestled in a leaf and mainlining its juicy food supply while leaving unsightly brown discolouration behind (not to mention their little black pellets of poo - or is it eggs?) would migrate away from its comfortable lunch counter to eat the pellets

The garden snail is a hermaphrodite, meaning that it possesses both male and female reproductive organs; although it is able to self-fertilise, most snails mate with another snail (4). After a period in which the members of the pair caress each other with their tentacles, each snail pierces the skin of its partner with a calcareous 'love dart', a spiny projection which is covered in mucus

How do you get rid of slugs and snails from your garden?

  http://conversation.which.co.uk/energy-home/slugs-and-snails-organic-barrier-chemical-stop-environmental/
This is a honeypot approach, and rarely effective as it merely increases slug populations in the longer term unless comfrey is used as a trap crop and the slugs are controlled on it. Gardeners often spread slug pellets directly after planting, but this leaves slugs with a choice of pellets or your prized plants on the menu, so damage can still result until they have been eradicated
